The Kraken King Part VIII The Kraken King and the Greatest Adventure edition by Meljean Brook Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks

What makes this last part of The Kraken King such an awesome conclusion is that, while edge-of-your-seat exciting, it isn't over-the-top. Ariq and Zenobia return to Krakentown, where it has been taken over by Golden Empire rebel Ghazan Bator and its seaport is guarded by a Nipponese Empire fleet in order to force Ariq to reveal the location of an enormous war machine that, in the wrong hands, could easily level cities.

Since part seven ends in somewhat of a cliffhanger I won't reveal how this part begins, but the greatest conflict is convincing the Nipponese Empress to give up trying to acquire the machine. The obstacles are seemingly insurmountable but the conclusion is such an intelligent weave of trust, timing and using the tools that are available...no deus-ex-machinas here. Meljean Brook writes an incredibly entertaining story, and Zenobia's journey from 'scribbling spinster' to 'Kraken Queen" is simply wonderful. I also love the contrasts shown in Ariq. He is a very physically imposing and strong man - but he is a calm, conscious leader who uses discussion to solve problems first. Fighting is always a last resort.

What I enjoyed most about this book was the culture clash - and the fact that most of the characters are not white. In fact, in the alternate history Iron Seas world the strongest empires and incredible technology comes from Asia and the Golden Empire, which was spawned from the leadership and conquests Ghenghis Khan.

Since this is the final part of eight pieces I can't say much more about how I enjoy Meljean's worldbuilding, characters, writing, etc. What I will say is The Kraken King is easily a favorite story of mine. If you are unsure about this book, the genre, the author this is a great place to start because you can just purchase part one and give it a try. If you don't like serials now every part is released and you can read them all - or wait until later in the year when this is packaged as one novel. Either way this isn't a story to miss.

The Kraken King Part VIII The Kraken King and the Greatest Adventure edition by Meljean Brook Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

What an amazing ride! Zenobia and Ariq's story is one of Meljean Brook's best steampunk adventures to date . . . and I LOVE her Iron Seas novels. It was fun from start to finish and as it turned out, I really did enjoy reading this book in serial form. Anticipation is a wonderful thing.

Following Zenobia, Archimedes Fox's sister, on her airship journey to the Far East has plenty of excitement, laughter, terror and above all, romance. Ariq, the Kraken King, is a wonderful example of a great hero type with enough human frailties to make him interesting. We also get to see Archimedes and his lethal wife, Lady Corsair, in action again in the last two episodes. All in all, a thoroughly delightful read. I highly recommend this series to all who love a great romantic adventure novel.
Consider this review to cover all 8 episodes. The choice to write and release a novel with a protagonist who is a serial writer, as a serial, was so appropriate it hurt. Oh, the agony waiting for each episode, and the pleasure seeing each arrive on my . The story was entertaining, the protagonists lovable, and it was, well, a bit seditious.

My personal favorite the first fully conscious meeting of Captain Corsair and the Kraken King. 'Cause sometimes you CAN judge a book by its cover.

Spoiler alert! Scroll only if you don't mind uber-plot spoilers.

If you've been reading the other books in the Iron Seas series, this may not come as a shock, but...the Golden Empire is going down Real Soon Now. Also, it would be a wee bit expensive, but the technology current in this world could be used to get rid of all the zombies in Europe, Africa, and Asia.
This is the fourth book in the Iron Seas series that was released in eight part installments, this is the eighth and final installment in this series.

Zenobia and Ariq arrive in Krakentown with their enemy hot on their heels. They must take whatever help they can get to defend Krakentown, even if it means they must put the horribly destructive machine of Ariq’s to use.

This was a well done conclusion to this book. The Kraken King joins forces with Archimedes Fox and the Lady Corsair and rushes back to Krakentown to defend his people. The final battle commences between those who would steal the giant war machine from Ariq and those who would defend Krakentown.

The whole novella was all very well done. There is a lot of intrigue and fighting. I really enjoyed getting to finally see the giant war machine. There really aren’t any steamy scenes between Zenobia and Ariq, which was a bit disappointing. However the reason for this was even more disappointing and odd...apparently Zenobia was on her period. Uh...okay. There is still a lot of touching romance between the two.

Both Zenobia and Ariq have grown and changed a lot throughout the book. I enjoyed them both a lot as characters. They are both caring and determined individuals and they are stronger when they are together than when they are apart.

I enjoyed how things wrapped up and thought the final solution was very creative. The giant war machine really added a wonderful steampunk feel to this book as well, I just loved it.

Overall a very well done conclusion to this The Kraken King series of novellas. This was also a well done continuation of The Iron Seas series. While I really enjoyed the The Kraken King overall, I was not a fan of the installment format. If Brook releases the next Iron Seas novel in installments I will definitely wait until the full book release to read it. This whole series is highly recommend to those who love steampunk adventure and don’t mind some romance in it as well.
